Ride legal
Queensland's e-bike rules changed in 2026. We've done the homework.
Since 31 August, riders need a licence and bikes must meet strict standards. Here's what that means for you.
Every bike is road-legal
All the e-bikes we hire and sell meet Queensland's rules: 250W motor, pedal-assist that cuts out at 25km/h, and built to the EN 15194 standard.
Bring a licence
Riders 16 and over need a driver licence to ride on roads and paths. Learner, interstate and overseas licences all count.
Helmet included
Helmets are compulsory and the fine is $518. Every hire comes with a sanitised helmet, ready to go.
Rail trails are exempt
The licence rule doesn't apply in designated recreational areas like the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail.
Overpowered or throttle-only e-bikes bought online can now only be ridden on private property, riding without a licence can cost $518, and there's a 12km/h limit on footpaths and when passing pedestrians. This is a plain-English summary, not legal advice — see the official Queensland e-bike rules.

Condition matters
Same job, very different bike
We spotted this one locked up around Brisbane — a hard-working, fleet-style delivery e-bike doing the same daily job ours do. It's a good reminder of why every bike we sell or hire gets tested and maintained, not just handed over.
- No front suspension — every crack and pothole transfers straight to the handlebars. The NCM Moscow Plus runs an SR Suntour coil fork with a hydraulic lockout, so you can soften rough paths or lock it out for efficient road riding.
- Chain and drivetrain caked in grime — a dry, unmaintained chain wears out fast and shifts poorly. Every bike we sell or hire is cleaned, lubricated and checked as part of our qualifying process.
- Rusting rotor, cracked grips — the wear that comes from being ridden hard with little upkeep. We check brakes, grips and contact points on every bike before it's allowed on our floor.

Do I need a licence?
